About Chinese Mahjong Guide

Chinese Mahjong Guide is a resource for players learning the traditional Chinese game — especially Hong Kong Old Style — whether you were taught by family, are reconnecting with a game from childhood, or are encountering it for the first time through film, travel, or a friend’s game night.

What We Take Seriously

Chinese Mahjong has no single universal rulebook, and pretending otherwise does readers a disservice. Every scoring or hands article on this site names its ruleset up front — Hong Kong Old Style by default, Chinese Official (MCR) where relevant — and we flag contested or house-rule-dependent details rather than presenting one convention as the only correct one. Where a fan value or convention genuinely varies by table, we say so.

How We Make Money

Where we recommend apps, those are currently the only planned way we’d monetize the site — and as of launch, we don’t have any live affiliate links at all. We don’t run tile-set or table affiliate links, so our physical-product guide stays purely informational, with no incentive shaping what we recommend.

Who This Is For

Primarily readers in the US, Canada, UK, and Australia — family-taught players wanting to formalize the rules they already half-know, diaspora communities looking for a reliable reference, and newcomers encountering the game for the first time. If that’s you, you’re in the right place.
